US Military Helps Troops Exercise Faith in Afghanistan

December 24th was Christmas Eve, but it also marked the first day of Hanukkah — a day celebrated even by the US troops stationed in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan:

At sundown on Saturday, Navy Lt. Lauren Sucher of Annapolis, Md., and Navy Chief Petty Officer Kent Frosch of Washington, D.C., stepped outside at Resolute Support headquarters in Kabul to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.

The short Stars and Stripes article is a reminder that regardless where the US military sends its troops, it generally supports their ability to practice their religion — even if some people might find it uncomfortable.

In this case, these Jewish US troops are surrounded by an Islamic nation and Read more

Mikey Weinstein’s MRFF Admits Trolling for Offended Supporters

weinstein9Without fail, Michael “Mikey” Weinstein will announce dramatic accusations of Christian malfeasance within the military by saying he has “34 aggrieved clients, 29 of whom are practicing Christians” or some such arbitrary numbers. This reliance on quantity goes against Weinstein’s own favored quote by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor that we “do not count heads before enforcing the First Amendment,” but Weinstein is known for sacrificing principle for dramatic effect when it suits his needs.

The numbers, vague and unprovable though they are, help mitigate Read more

Harassed by Mikey Weinstein, Part 5: You’ve Got (Lots of) eMail

While Michael “Mikey” Weinstein’s lawyers weakly threatened this site with a lawsuit in 2009, the “conversation” with Mikey actually began more than two years earlier. It turns out, in fact, that Mikey Weinstein can actually come across as an OK kind of guy — so long as he agrees with your ideology.

In December 2007 — almost exactly 9 years ago — Mikey Weinstein responded to an email that rebutted a recent MRFF press release with the following missive:

mikeyweinsteinemail24The random capitalization and punctuation (as well as his inability to release the period key on the keyboard) often make Mikey Weinstein’s emails seem as though they belong in his wife’s book about poor grammar and hate mail. That aside, while he was being a bit arrogant and obnoxious, it was still relatively light-hearted.

That changed a few hours later.

Air Force Band Celebrates Christmas, Flash Mobs Smithsonian

The US Air Force Band continued its annual tradition of a “flash mob” performance of holiday songs. This year was less “flash” and more “mob,” given the use of prepositioned stages, but, in a refreshing surprise, the “holiday” songs clearly referred to the “holy” day:

This year’s event featured two Christmas carols: “Patapan,” which the vocalists sang in French and English, and “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” which is based on a French dance tune originally by Jehan Tabourot, with the text being written by English composer George Ratcliffe Woodward.

From the two songs, which are clearly Christmas carols:  Read more

Harassed by Mikey Weinstein, Part 3: Targeting the Jewish Soccer Mom

As previously discussed, Michael “Mikey” Weinstein’s campaign of harassment included sending legal letters to ChristianFighterPilot.com with threats of lawsuits and implications of financial ruin.  But Weinstein’s use of those threats wasn’t limited to this site.

Mikey Weinstein even turned on a Jewish soccer mom.

In 2011, Jewish parents of a US Air Force Academy cadet encouraged their fellow Parents Club members to support USAFA.  Their comments said:

If you are a jewish cadet or a parent of a jewish cadet who has had a positive experience while attending the academy please write a response to Mikey Weinstein…

he currently is using the media to implicate a negative image of the Academy…

Consider: This comment was made in an Academy Parent’s Club forum, and it Read more

US Air Force Leaders Send Generic Non-Holiday Salutations

It has become somewhat of an amusing annual tradition to observe government and military officials attempt to say something about December 25th and its surrounding days without offending anyone. Of course, as the Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas wars have proven, not matter what they say, someone will be offended. The only question is who.

It seems the US Air Force is leading off the fight this year with Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James, Chief of Staff Gen David Goldfein, and outgoing Chief Master Sgt of the Air Force James Cody sending non-specific non-holiday salutations for the months of November and December [emphasis added]: Read more

Harassed by Mikey Weinstein, Part 2: The Motivation for His Crusade

The recent demand letter sent to ChristianFighterPilot.com by Michael “Mikey” Weinstein’s lawyers wasn’t the first. In fact, seven years ago this coming week, Randal “Randy” Mathis first introduced himself here:

mathisweinstein4The reason for this first letter was an article entitled “MRFF: Chaplain’s Sermons Permissible, Sort of,” which pointed out the flagrant inconsistency between Chris Rodda and Read more

Catherine Wallace: Christians More Dangerous than Islamic Terrorists

wallaceweinsteinMichael “Mikey” Weinstein’s research assistant, self-taught “historian” Chris Rodda, may have competition for her job from Catherine Wallace of Northwestern University in Illinois. Wallace, a “cultural historian and literary critic” is part of the Feinberg School of Medicine and recently described her belief that [emphasis added]

the Christian fundamentalist movement in the United States is more dangerous than Islamic terrorism.

Her logic is straight from the talking points of Mikey Weinstein, who thinks Christians and their ability to obtain “laser guided nuclear weapons” are the real threat to America. Similarly [emphasis added]:  Read more
