Tony Perkins Appointed to Religious Freedom Commission

The Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins has been appointed to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) via Senator Mitch McConnell:

I am grateful to Majority Leader McConnell for appointing me to this prestigious position. From my post at USCIRF, I look forward to doing all that I can to ensure that our government is the single biggest defender of religious freedom internationally…

Tony Perkins and the FRC — along with their VP retired Gen Jerry Boykin — have been fairly vocal in their defense of military religious freedom, which has occasionally put them in the cross hairs of Michael “Mikey” Weinstein.

For those that are concerned about Perkins trying to take over America for evangelical Christianity, however, it is worth noting the USCIRF is focused on international religious freedom. Besides, President Trump also re-nominated Chai Feldblum (‘sex trumps religion’) to the EEOC, so the domestic threat to religious liberty appears to remain.
