US Army Honors Jewish War Veterans

Col Jeffrey Becker was recently the keynote speaker at an event commemorating the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish War Veterans.

He spoke about the roles that Jewish Soldiers have played in our nation’s history. Also, a great many who have received the Medal of Honor…

Becker also said it is important in reflecting on Jewish American heritage that we take pride in their culture and history.

“Our Army represents the greatest democratic ideal of inclusion, and today we honor the cultural differences that strengthen our armed forces,” Becker said.

It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then a US military commander publicly recognizes the virtues of the religious beliefs of troops, as well as the religious “inclusion” and diversity that “strengthen our Armed Forces.” While “Jewish War Veteran” is an honorific, more often than not it seems “Christian Soldier” is a pejorative.

Col Becker’s positive words on faith and service are a sign of respect for military religious freedom — a liberty often overlooked or even sometimes censored in this age of “tolerance.”
