US Army Seeks to Strengthen Marriages

A US Army article from Fort Carson, Colorado, discusses a marriage enrichment seminar led by the chaplaincy which emphasized the value the Army places on strengthening and protecting the marriages of its troops:

Chap. (Maj.) John Jensen, brigade chaplain, 3rd ABCT, said the purpose of the seminar was to help strengthen each couple’s marriage.

“These marriage seminars encourage married couples to examine how they communicate with each other…,” Jensen said. “The couples enjoyed talking about marriage, and marriage issues, in a relaxed environment, while being afforded the time to spend with their spouses and other couples in the brigade who share the same struggles and challenges of Army life.”

While it may not go so far as to say the military is “fighting” divorce, the breakup of marriages is often cited in a wide variety of military statistics, from retention and recruitment to suicide.  It is evident the US military is intent on helping the troops who want to protect their marriage to do so.
