Heather Wilson Confirmed Secretary of the Air Force. Mikey Weinstein Cringes.

Heather Wilson (USAFA ’82) is now the first graduate of the US Air Force Academy to become Secretary of the Air Force, thus ensuring her legacy as a bullet in every four degree’s issued Contrails. She becomes only the second DoD appointee under President Trump to successfully take office, coming just after the second nominee for the Secretary of the Army, Mark Green, withdrew last week.

Even Wilson’s relatively easy confirmation was delayed, with some reports indicating an “unnamed Senator” had put a hold on her confirmation. Mark Green had cited the threat of just such a “hold” on his potential confirmation — which would have kept the Army from getting its new Secretary indefinitely — in his reasoning for withdrawing his name last week.

President Trump Nominates Heather Wilson for Secretary of the Air Force

President Donald Trump has nominated former US Rep Heather Wilson (R-NM) to be the next Secretary of the Air Force. Wilson is a 1982 distinguished graduate of the US Air Force Academy, was a Rhodes Scholar, and served with the National Security Council before being elected to the House of Representatives.  She would be the first USAFA graduate to be Secretary of the Air Force.  Compared with other recent Service Secretaries, her foreign policy, elected office, and military service credentials are rather impressive.

Like many of Trump’s nominees, Wilson’s name is less well-known. Generally speaking, she appears to lean conservative as a Republican.  Some reports indicate she is a Methodist, a denomination that runs the spectrum of belief.

Air Force Responds to Outcry over Censored Commander’s Article

The Public Affairs officer at the Ohio National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing had a tough job — explaining the reasoning behind Col Craig “Bluto” Baker’s decision to censor an article by his medical group commander, Col Florencio Marquinez, because Michael “Mikey” Weinstein found it “odious.” Spokesman James Sims told FoxNews’ Todd Starnes this:

It’s very clear what you can and cannot say in an Air Force publication. Once it was brought to our attention and we compared it with the regulation, we found it was in violation of the regulation.

The article violated AFI 1-1, Sections 2.11 and 2.12.1, and the Revised Interim Guidelines Concerning Free Exercise of Religion in the Air Force guidance, and finally, ‘The Air Force Military Commander and the Law’ book.

That’s a fascinating — and error-filled — statement by the public affairs officer.

Mikey Weinstein’s Friends and Allies in Military High Places, Part 4

As noted previously, Michael “Mikey” Weinstein claims the US military is overrun by Christians trying to take over the world, and he is sacrificing himself as a martyr in a one-man crusade to save us all.  Except…

It seems Weinstein is fast friends with the top leaders of the very military services he claims he’s fighting — contrary to his frequent claims he is but a lowly David fighting an institutional Goliath.

In two examples, Weinstein’s “close personal…relationship” with an Air Force base’s commanding general has already been discussed, as has his unusual access to an Air Force Colonel’s non-releasable records.  In a more significant example, The JAG of the Air Force for nearly 6 years, LtGen Jack Rives, was the legal face of the Air Force as it (presumably) fended off Weinstein’s attacks.  After he retired, though, former TJAG LtGen Rives turned ardent cheerleader for Weinstein’s crusade against religious freedom in the US military.

Now, Weinstein has publicly announced that very recently retired LtGen William Lord has “long” been an ally for Weinstein’s cause.  At his retirement just a year ago, LtGen William Lord was the AF Chief Information Officer — in the office of the Secretary of the Air Force.  Recalling his recent visit to the “well-appointed” office of the Superintendent of West Point, Weinstein said [emphasis added]:  Read more

SecAF: “Do What is Right for Our Air Force”

Outgoing Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley, addressing the US Air Force Academy graduating class of 2013, “implored the cadets” to defend the character of the Air Force:

“Each of you is responsible for the character of this Air Force, and its reputation,” Donley said. “And I therefore charge you to serve with integrity, and by example — to lead, to say and to do what is right for our Air Force.”

Serve with integrity and character.  Do the right thing.  It seems like the Air Force is encouraging a high moral standard.

Living morally is consistent with Christian officership, but doing the right thing is also consistent with professional officership.  Unfortunately, a few forget that the right choice is not always the easy choice.  Fortunately, “right” normally prevails, even if at some cost.

Mikey Weinstein’s Friends and Allies in Military High Places, Part 3

Despite his claims the US military is overrun by Christians trying to take over the world, Michael Weinstein seems to have more public allies in military leadership positions than he has public enemies. In addition, Michael Weinstein seems to have some very well-placed friends in the US military, despite his claims he is a David fighting an institutional Goliath.
