Michael Weinstein Sees New Christian Conspiracy in Old Regulation

In a little noted message in April, the US Marine Corps quietly tweaked their uniform policies.  One of the changes dealt with the wear of religious items.

According to the Marine Times,

According to the changes announced in Marine administrative message 207/13, signed April 17, Marines may now wear:

– Articles of religious apparel that are not visible or apparent when worn with the uniform.
– Visible articles of religious apparel with the uniform while attending or conducting religious services or while in a chapel or other house of worship.
– Visible articles of religious apparel with the uniform, but only with special approval.

US Marines to Institute Blues Fridays

Update: An official Defense.gov article notes the recent changes in Armed Services uniform policies and covers some of the highlights.

Just after the US Air Force abandoned “blues Mondays,” the US Marine Corps has announced that, as of tomorrow, Fridays require Marines to wear service uniforms instead of their utilities:

Beginning Jan. 4, 2013, all non-deployed Marines and sailors assigned to Marine units, regardless of component, active or Reserve, will be required to wear the appropriate seasonal service uniform each Friday.

General Welsh becomes 20th Chief of Staff of the Air Force

General Mark Welsh became the 20th Chief of Staff of the Air Force last week.

While he is an immensely popular General already, the video and photos of the ceremony in which he became the chief have inspired a slew of responses with one question more indicative of a high school prom than a military event:

What in the world was the General wearing?

It is reminiscent of the Hap Arnold uniform designed a few years ago — which was shelved.  The odd uniform had some commenters nervous that (yet another) Air Force uniform change was on its way, but, to this point, that does not appear to be the case.  If that’s the first “issue” the new Chief has, it can’t be that bad…

Military Uniforms Highlight San Diego Homosexual Parade

The San Diego homosexual “pride” parade became the latest event at which US military uniforms were used to proudly exclaim the fact a group of people liked having sex with people of their own gender.

As with other events, there was an undercurrent of disagreement with the frequent statements that homosexuality is a non-issue in the US military.  For example:

Gay service members say obstacles remain, largely from other people’s strong personal views against homosexuality or their discomfort around the subject…

Uniformed Military Members to March in Gay Pride Parade

Military members — wearing their uniforms — will be able to march in this weekend’s parade in San Diego in which people publicly celebrate their desire to have sex with members of their own gender:

In a memorandum sent military-wide, the department said it was making an exception to its policy that generally bars troops from marching in uniform in parades unless individuals get approval from their commanders.

The reasoning behind the US military’s decision:  Read more

Navy to Field Test Gender Neutral Uniforms

Juan Garcia, an assistant to the Secretary of the Navy for manpower, says Secretary Ray Mabus wants a service where opportunities are “gender blind.”  To that end, the Navy is floating the idea of ending gender-specific hats.

“It’s a small thing, but separate covers was in some ways emblematic of a two-tiered sea service force,” Garcia said in an April 10 interview, speaking about Mabus. “He wanted to take a look across the force…to send a signal that our Navy … reward[s] and keep[s] the best talent, regardless of gender.”

Unisex uniforms are nothing new.  In fact, the Air Force recently Read more
