President Obama declared June to be “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month,” which purportedly takes the opportunity for the US government to “celebrate” sexual attraction to one’s own gender. Unlike some other proclamations called upon by Congress, the LGBT Pride proclamation was done independently by Obama as it was under Clinton, the last president to make such declarations.
And because we must treat others the way we want to be treated, I personally believe in marriage equality for same-sex couples…More remains to be done to ensure every single American is treated equally, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Bob Stith, of the Southern Baptist’s Task Force on Ministry to Homosexuals, said the Presidential proclamation continued a recent socially accepted theme: opposition to homosexuality is bigotry.

Last week’s speculation that the atheist Rock Beyond Belief would likely face more struggles against US Army restrictions inspired an amazing onslaught of vitriol from the MRFF and its supporters. That the publicity-hungry event scheduled for the end of March might have another brouhaha in its future seemed to strike a chord.

It is possible Rodda really is as ignorant as she’s implying, despite the fact her role as Michael Weinstein’s research assistant should have informed her of what problems may yet be experienced by Rock Beyond Belief.

A firestorm erupted in the media last week when LtGen Thomas Bostick, a member of the “working group” on “Don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal, was quoted in the Washington Times apparently equating religious opposition to homosexuality with bigotry and racism. From the Washington Times editorial “A New Gay Army:”
Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, the Army’s deputy chief of staff in charge of personnel matters who spoke about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” before several hundred troops at the European Command headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. “Unfortunately, we have a minority of service members who are still racists and bigoted and you will never be able to get rid of all of them,” Lt. Gen. Bostick said. “But these people opposing this new policy will need to get with the program, and if they can’t, they need to get out. No matter how much training and education of those in opposition, you’re always going to have those that oppose this on moral and religious grounds just like you still have racists today.”
