{"id":9630,"date":"2011-02-23T03:15:06","date_gmt":"2011-02-23T08:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=9630"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:15:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:15:30","slug":"michael-weinstein-gets-more-revisionist-credit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/23\/michael-weinstein-gets-more-revisionist-credit\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Weinstein Gets More Revisionist Credit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Weinstein, generally\u00a0bereft of actual victories in his fight against religious freedom in the military, is often forced to take his fight to the media.\u00a0 He did so again recently in <em>The Nation<\/em>, a &#8220;progressive&#8221; independent\u00a0publication.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/158462\/backward-christian-soldiers?page=0,1\">The article<\/a> is essentially a fluffed up\u00a0summary of Weinstein&#8217;s crusade.\u00a0 (Given the fact Weinstein apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/11\/weinstein-threatens-legal-action-against-gazette\/\">threatens to sue newspapers that criticize him<\/a>, perhaps the light-touch is understandable.)\u00a0 It seems to\u00a0take Weinstein&#8217;s word as gospel, and doesn&#8217;t appear\u00a0to once take a critical look at his accusations.<\/p>\n<p>It even starts to compare Weinstein to Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the article has some interesting highlights.\u00a0 After fulfilling Weinstein&#8217;s psychological need to tell everyone <!--more-->how threatened he is (noting his guard dogs and shotgun, as if owning a 12-gauge legitimizes him somehow), the article says<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Firearms, however, are not Weinstein\u2019s offensive weapon of choice. Armed with a hundred years of case law, he is most formidable in court.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Most formidable?&#8221;\u00a0 Weinstein hasn&#8217;t survived beyond the Motion to Dismiss in <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/10\/usafa-lawsuit-dismissed-weinstein-goes-0-for-4\/\"><em>any<\/em> of his lawsuits against the military<\/a>.\u00a0 If that&#8217;s as &#8220;formidable&#8221; as he gets, then Weinstein is even more irrelevant than first thought.<\/p>\n<p>The very next sentence, though, fits nicely with Weinstein&#8217;s obsessive need to claim <em>some<\/em> form of victory, even if it takes creative license to do so:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In 2004 MRFF was alerted by service members that chaplains embedded in combat units were handing out vernacular-language Bibles in Iraq and Afghanistan&#8230;After MRFF took up the case, the Pentagon responded by confiscating and destroying isolated caches of Bibles&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier in the article the author, Stephen Glain, noted the MRFF was created in 2005, so crediting it with conduct in 2004\u00a0makes no sense.\u00a0 To date, there is no public record of such an incident in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it was a typo on Glain&#8217;s part, because in 2009 al Jazeera <em>did<\/em> publish a video about local language Bibles in Afghanistan.\u00a0 But it appears <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/04\/us-military-chaplains-on-al-jazeera\/\">the military confiscated<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/14\/some-upset-at-us-governments-destruction-of-bibles\/\">&#8220;destroyed&#8221; the Bibles<\/a> before\u00a0al Jazeera even <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/04\/us-military-chaplains-on-al-jazeera\/\">discussed the video with the MRFF&#8217;s<\/a> Chris Rodda.\u00a0 There is no indication the MRFF has had any part in &#8220;confiscating and destroying&#8221; Bibles, despite the apparent desire to do so.\u00a0 In fact, &#8220;after MRFF took up the case,&#8221; exactly <em>nothing<\/em> happened, except for Weinstein releasing a video\u00a0of a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/20\/mrff-chaplains-sermons-permissible-sort-of\/\">Chaplain&#8217;s chapel sermon as a fundraising prop<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; belittling the Chaplain&#8217;s protection of the troops&#8217; free exercise to bring in money for Weinstein&#8217;s personal\u00a0vendetta.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the first time Weinstein has been given credit for something he didn&#8217;t do, though.\u00a0 Weinstein <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/01\/weinstein-claims-credit-for-bracd-unit\/\">once said<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our Foundation stopped the 523rd Attack F16 Squadron&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>in reference to the Air Force&#8217;s decision to BRAC the unit&#8230;<em>in May of 2005<\/em>, before his &#8220;foundation&#8221; even existed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Weinstein, generally\u00a0bereft of actual victories in his fight against religious freedom in the military, is often forced to take his fight to the media.\u00a0 He did so again recently in The Nation, a &#8220;progressive&#8221; independent\u00a0publication.
