{"id":9472,"date":"2011-02-14T01:45:22","date_gmt":"2011-02-14T06:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=9472"},"modified":"2011-02-14T02:08:41","modified_gmt":"2011-02-14T07:08:41","slug":"ig-says-ensign-faced-retaliation-over-complaint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/14\/ig-says-ensign-faced-retaliation-over-complaint\/","title":{"rendered":"IG Says Ensign Faced Retaliation over Complaint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Inspector General has reportedly determined that US Navy Ensign Steve Crowston faced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/news\/2011\/02\/navy-crowston-update-020911w\/\">reprisal in the form of an &#8220;unfavorable fitness report&#8221;<\/a> after lodging complaints against his leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Crowston was an &#8220;administration\/legal officer&#8221; and had recently become an officer after previously\u00a0serving as a petty officer.\u00a0 The aviators in his unit included him in the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2006\/06\/13\/fighter-pilot-traditions\/\">fighter pilot tradition<\/a> of a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2006\/06\/13\/one-fighter-pilots-naming\/\">Naming<\/a>; Crowston <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/16\/navy-officer-files-ig-complaint-over-naming\/\">lodged complaints as a result<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Crowston&#8217;s then-commander, Cmdr Liam Bruen, <!--more-->has reportedly been reassigned pending the completion of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The reports indicate the IG only substantiated the allegation of reprisal, not the other allegations of harassment.\u00a0 Those allegations were initially unsubstantiated; Crowston appealed that decision and added the reprisal.\u00a0 Interestingly, both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2011\/02\/10\/navy-ig-finds-officer-gave-subordinate-bad-review-retaliation-harassment\/\">FoxNews<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/news\/article\/ig-backs-ensign-in-anti-gay-complaint.html\">Military.com<\/a> characterized it as &#8220;anti-gay harassment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bruen told FoxNews he had only heard about it through the media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Inspector General has reportedly determined that US Navy Ensign Steve Crowston faced reprisal in the form of an &#8220;unfavorable fitness report&#8221; after lodging complaints against his leadership.
