Jared Polis (D-CO) is on the <strong>US Air Force Academy<\/strong>&#8216;s advisory board.\u00a0 He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.com\/articles\/congressman-112404-colorado-welcome.html\">reportedly suggested<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>the academy should consider hiring gay and lesbian chaplains and said cadets should be welcome to bring \u201cthe date of their choice\u201d to Air Force Academy balls and other social functions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <strong>Virgina state Attorney General<\/strong> seemed\u00a0to indicate that the state could, in fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/01\/ap-virginia-attorney-general-opinion-on-guard-gay-ban-012811\/\">enact its own ban on homosexuals in the National Guard<\/a>, but that it would lose federal funding if it did so.\u00a0 He suggested Virginia could form a state militia if it wanted to continue DADT.<\/p>\n<p>Despite clear guidance in the DADT Repeal Implementation Plan, <strong>&#8220;transgender&#8221; individuals<\/strong> are still <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/01\/ap-transgender-veterans-011111\/\">lobbying for a repeal of the ban on transsexual military service<\/a>.\u00a0 As noted previously, the logic is the same (they have a right to serve, they&#8217;re making the same sacrifices, they&#8217;re already serving).\u00a0 Indeed, one article simply said<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230;It\u2019s just a matter of when,\u201d said former Army Capt. Allyson Robinson, 40, a 1994 West Point graduate who has spoken to sociology classes at the alma mater she attended as a male cadet. &#8220;There are active-duty, as well as reserve and national guard transgender service members, serving today.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Rep. Duncan Hunter<\/strong> (R-CA) has proposed the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/2011\/01\/military-bill-to-delay-dadt-repeal-011411w\/\">Restore Military Readiness Act of 2011<\/a>, a bill requiring that the Service Chiefs &#8212; not just the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs &#8212; be required to &#8220;certify&#8221; that military readiness would not be harmed prior to DADT repeal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rep. Steve King<\/strong> (R-IA) has indicated he wants to co-sponsor a bill that would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onenewsnow.com\/Politics\/Default.aspx?id=1273666\">allow combat units to be exempt<\/a> from being required to accept homosexuals.\u00a0 The concept is based on the majority of the survey that said combat units would be most affected, in a negative way, by the repeal.<\/p>\n<p>Various sources have reported that &#8220;<strong>repeal training<\/strong>&#8221; may begin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defense.gov\/\/news\/newsarticle.aspx?id=62623\">as early as this month<\/a>, with repeal itself <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2011\/01\/28\/pentagon-source-months-gays-serve-openly\/\">occurring by the end of the year<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The military will be trained in three major phases. First, lawyers, chaplains, administrators and civilian personnel will be briefed on what the changes mean for their jobs. Next, the leadership, including commanding officers, will be briefed. Finally, the rest of the military will receive its training.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In a video message (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qPn3V3KuhaM\">YouTube<\/a>) from <strong>General James Amos<\/strong>, Commandant of the Marine Corps, on the repeal of &#8220;Don&#8217;t Ask, Don&#8217;t Tell,&#8221; he and the Command Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Carlton Kent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stripes.com\/blogs\/stripes-central\/stripes-central-1.8040\/amos-delivers-message-to-corps-on-dadt-1.133192\">emphasized dignity and fidelity<\/a>.\u00a0 Interestingly, he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Our fidelity to one another is our <strong>moral compass<\/strong> that guides us.\u00a0 It is the foundation of what being a Marine is all about.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Below is an update on ongoing issues with respect to the planned repeal of Don&#8217;t Ask, Don&#8217;t Tell.
