{"id":9284,"date":"2011-02-22T03:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T08:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=9284"},"modified":"2011-02-21T02:52:57","modified_gmt":"2011-02-21T07:52:57","slug":"star-trek-coming-navy-may-field-anti-aircraft-lasers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/22\/star-trek-coming-navy-may-field-anti-aircraft-lasers\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek Coming: Navy May Field Anti-Aircraft Lasers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FoxNews recently reported on the US Navy&#8217;s attempts to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/scitech\/2011\/01\/20\/raygun-breakthrough-revolutionize-naval-power\/\">develop laser-based weapons<\/a> that might be used for a variety of purposes, including ship and anti-aircraft defense.<\/p>\n<p>Lasers have come a long way in the military already.\u00a0 The US Air Force flys a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/16\/air-force-747-shoots-down-missile\/\">747 with a laser in the nose<\/a> (the &#8220;Airborne Laser,&#8221; or ABL) that can shoot down ballistic missiles; it doesn&#8217;t take much to imagine what else that laser could be pointed at or used for.\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/12\/us-air-force-aircraft-fires-phasers\/\">laser-equipped C-130<\/a> has engaged ground targets to mixed success, and Boeing reportedly used lasers to <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/24\/boeing-downs-uavs-with-lasers\/\">down small UAVs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is still a long way to go, though.
