{"id":9231,"date":"2011-02-02T00:10:50","date_gmt":"2011-02-02T05:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=9231"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:15:33","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:15:33","slug":"gazette-slams-weinsteins-usafa-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/02\/gazette-slams-weinsteins-usafa-lawsuit\/","title":{"rendered":"Gazette Slams Weinstein&#8217;s USAFA Lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The editorial page of the\u00a0<em>Colorado Springs Gazette<\/em>, local to the US Air Force Academy, came down with both feet on Michael Weinstein&#8217;s MRFF, clearly saying Weinstein&#8217;s group &#8220;opposes the free exercise of religion in government.&#8221;\u00a0 The article,\u00a0entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.com\/opinion\/anti-112168-suit-based.html\">Anti-religion suit is based on a myth<\/a>,&#8221; was written by editor Wayne Laugesen in response to Weinstein&#8217;s lawsuit precipitated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/01\/mrff-sues-usafa-over-mcclary-invitation\/\">invitation USMC Lt (Ret) Clebe McClary<\/a> to the Academy National Prayer Luncheon.\u00a0 Laugesen said<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a group that <em><strong>opposes the free exercise<\/strong> of religion in government<\/em>, is suing U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Michael Gould in an effort to <em>forcefully <strong>censor an evangelical Christian<\/strong><\/em> from speaking at the National Prayer Luncheon \u2014 a private event scheduled for Feb. 10 at the academy. (emphasis added)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The paper also jabbed at Weinstein&#8217;s lawyer and Weinstein&#8217;s own demonstrated record in the American judicial system:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>David Lane, the go-to Colorado lawyer for trying a case in the media&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and explains its own view of the case:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Air Force Academy has a legal obligation to protect the free exercise of religion for students, faculty, employees and other Americans. It cannot do that while forbidding the free exercise of religion. It cannot, by law, rescind a speaking invitation for the purpose of silencing a man with a religious message some consider grotesque.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Inviting a controversial religious man to speak is a far cry from passing a law, and those who conflate ideas with laws are either confused or dishonest.
