He has been making a fairly rapid recovery at Brooke Army Medical Center, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2011\/01\/air-force-pirrello-keeps-piloting-dream-alive-013111w\/\">still has hopes of flying<\/a>, though he remains open to both possibilities and restrictions:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pirrello had hoped to become a fighter pilot; now, he just wants to be a pilot. He\u2019s even open to flying a remotely piloted aircraft.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Air Force <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/09\/air-force-officer-loses-leg-re-enters-pilot-training\/\">recently announced<\/a> that a pilot training student who lost part of his leg in a boating accident had been reinstated into training &#8212; the first amputee ever to continue pilot training.\u00a0 Pirrello&#8217;s injuries were more severe, and he has yet to be commissioned, but with his determination to serve, he may yet see his dreams fulfilled.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ROTC Cadet Matt Pirrello lost his leg in a jump accident at the US Air Force Academy last year.
