{"id":8786,"date":"2010-12-31T01:53:53","date_gmt":"2010-12-31T06:53:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=8786"},"modified":"2010-12-31T01:53:53","modified_gmt":"2010-12-31T06:53:53","slug":"us-navy-bans-smoking-on-subs-starting-january-1st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/31\/us-navy-bans-smoking-on-subs-starting-january-1st\/","title":{"rendered":"US Navy Bans Smoking on Subs Starting January 1st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US Navy submariners may have to work on their New Years resolution a little harder this year if they&#8217;re smokers.\u00a0 As of January 1st, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.military.com\/news\/article\/smoking-ban-about-to-kick-in-on-navy-subs.html\">Navy will no longer allow smoking on submarines<\/a>, as it announced earlier this year.\u00a0 Submarines are typically out of port for months at a time, and the submariners lack some of the &#8216;chemical assistance&#8217; other Sailors might have:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Although many Sailors rely on prescription medication to help them quit &#8212; Zyban and Chantix are two popular options &#8212; they aren&#8217;t available for submariners, because psychotropic drugs are forbidden for the 11,600 Sailors assigned to subs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The crews think their surface brethren <!--more-->may ultimately face the same fate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Though the ban aboard smoking underway only applies to submarines for now, Albany Sailors have no doubt their brothers and sisters on surface ships will soon be following in their footsteps.
