{"id":8487,"date":"2010-12-14T00:30:27","date_gmt":"2010-12-14T05:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=8487"},"modified":"2010-12-13T03:09:08","modified_gmt":"2010-12-13T08:09:08","slug":"flyby-pilots-barely-above-100-feet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/14\/flyby-pilots-barely-above-100-feet\/","title":{"rendered":"Flyby Pilots &#8220;Barely above 100 feet&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Air Force Times<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2010\/12\/ap-air-force-review-shows-pilots-were-barely-above-100-feet-121210\/\">revisits the T-38 flyby of the Iowa-Ohio State game<\/a>, citing architectural dimensions to try to analyze the videos and claim the jets were &#8220;flying at a fraction of the minimum altitude required.&#8221;\u00a0 (See <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/06\/air-force-pilots-investigated-for-flyby\/\">prior article<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Despite the CSI-like efforts of the <em>Air Force Times<\/em>, the Air Force (which has no connection with the paper) will conduct its own investigation and act based on those conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>For its part, the University of Iowa <!--more-->didn&#8217;t care:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A spokesman for the university, which requested the flyover, declined to criticize the pilots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal of the flyover was to honor all military personnel with a memorable display, and the UI is pleased that goal was clearly accomplished,\u201d Tom Moore said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Flight discipline is certainly a valid point of criticism, but there&#8217;s a caution in overanalyzing such an event.\u00a0 YouTube is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=L6CN3yr9uI4\">full of videos of flyovers<\/a> that might fail a trigonometric analysis of their altitude, especially when they appear to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PLqWa6ClCq4\">level with the press box<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PLPC-4Mj3N8\">even lower<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Air Force Times revisits the T-38 flyby of the Iowa-Ohio State game, citing architectural dimensions to try to analyze the videos and claim the jets were &#8220;flying at a fraction of the minimum altitude required.&#8221;\u00a0 (See prior article.)
