{"id":7243,"date":"2010-09-16T00:35:25","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T05:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=7243"},"modified":"2011-03-23T22:52:05","modified_gmt":"2011-03-24T03:52:05","slug":"religious-faiths-coexist-in-us-military","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/16\/religious-faiths-coexist-in-us-military\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious Faiths Coexist in US Military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an apparent effort to thwart conspiracy theorists, the US military has occasionally taken to publicizing what is obvious to the casual observer <em>within<\/em> the military.\u00a0 Over the past few years, for example, the military has posted a variety of news articles noting\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/09\/chaplains-guard-constitutional-rights\/\">servicemembers of all faiths and no faith have the protected ability to exercise their ideologies<\/a> even while serving.<\/p>\n<p>Just this week, the Navy published an awkwardly-titled but sincerely-written piece from the USS <em>Abraham Lincoln<\/em> carrier strike group, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/search\/display.asp?story_id=55983\">Members of Differing Faiths Peacefully Coexist on Navy Aircraft Carrier<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 Obviously, members of different faiths peacefully coexist <em>throughout<\/em> the military, though some might allege otherwise without substantiation.\u00a0 The article offers a concise and fairly comprehensive coverage of the efforts by the US military to appropriately ensure the religious rights of its members:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>With 40 different services held at sea each week, strike group Sailors have the opportunity to attend a service that best represents their preferred faith group. Although each worship service is designed around specific faith traditions and expressions, the chaplains on board provide pastoral care to all 7,000 Sailors in the Lincoln Strike Group, for all religious affiliations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognize our Constitutional obligation to accommodate the free exercise of religion for all members of the military and their families,&#8221; said Cmdr. Thomas Webber, a Navy chaplain, and the strike group&#8217;s command chaplain.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>The Navy chaplain corps lives by a code of ethics designed to ensure all faiths are represented and cared for spiritually.
