The Baptist Press notes the recent controversy that erupted when Tony Dungy criticized New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan’s<\/a> common use of profanity.<\/p>\n

On a nationally broadcast radio show in mid-August, Dungy was asked by the host what he thought of Ryan’s use of several curse words in a constant pattern on a nationally televised reality show about the New York Jets.<\/p>\n

Dungy told the host he didn’t approve of the bad language and would not have hired Ryan or anybody on his staff when he coached who used those words.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In Dungy’s defense, his statement was a direct response to a question, and his point was the topic of profanity itself, not the individual conduct of Rex Ryan.\u00a0 The response from Ryan supporters<\/a> was fairly strong.\u00a0 Still, Dungy didn’t back down<\/a> from his statements:<\/p>\n

I was saying they asked me about my feelings about profanity, and I’m not a big fan of it, whether it comes from Rex Ryan or anyone else. I think especially as a leader, leading a football team or anything, I just don’t think it is necessary.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dungy has been mentioned here previously<\/a> for his unabashed example of living a Christian life in a field not often thought of as “Christian,” and for his life priorities.<\/p>\n
