{"id":7054,"date":"2010-09-09T00:35:57","date_gmt":"2010-09-09T06:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=7054"},"modified":"2010-09-09T08:53:15","modified_gmt":"2010-09-09T14:53:15","slug":"air-force-looking-to-replace-t-38s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/09\/air-force-looking-to-replace-t-38s\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force Looking to Replace T-38s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Update<\/em><\/strong>: European-based BAE has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upi.com\/Business_News\/Security-Industry\/2010\/09\/09\/BAE-promotes-Hawk-as-T-38-replacement\/UPI-74991284039436\/\">proposed its Hawk<\/a> to replace the T-38.<\/p>\n<p>The US Air Force has already replaced its primary training aircraft:\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/aircraft.htm#T-37B\">T-37<\/a> has now been replaced by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/aircraft.htm#T-6\">T-6<\/a>.\u00a0 The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/aircraft.htm#T-38\"> T-38<\/a> is the second tier of basic pilot training, the aircraft in which all fighter pilots (and sometimes bomber pilots, depending on what year students attended) complete pilot training.\u00a0 A report out at the <em>Air Force Times<\/em> indicates the Air Force is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2010\/08\/air-force-replacing-t-38-talon-082910w\/\">&#8220;looking to replace&#8221; the jet trainer<\/a>.\u00a0 Given the age of the planes and the horizon of the acquisition process, it might be a statement of the obvious.<\/p>\n<p>The 50 year old T-38s have already been updated with advanced avionics and even <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/13\/new-ejection-seat-improves-t-38\/\">completely new ejection systems<\/a>.\u00a0 Updates don&#8217;t make the aircraft any newer, however, and the aging fleet of T-38s will ultimately need to be replaced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: European-based BAE has proposed its Hawk to replace the T-38.
