{"id":6928,"date":"2010-08-23T00:32:50","date_gmt":"2010-08-23T06:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=6928"},"modified":"2010-08-22T21:44:36","modified_gmt":"2010-08-23T03:44:36","slug":"ramadan-and-the-war-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/23\/ramadan-and-the-war-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramadan and the War in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Army.mil article recently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.army.mil\/-news\/2010\/08\/20\/44010-ramadan-holiday-continues-through-month\/\">described the tenets of the Islamic celebration of Ramadan<\/a>.\u00a0 The military often goes to great lengths to help its members understand Islam due to its intense involvement in the culture in which American forces are deployed.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Air Force Times<\/em> carries the Associated Press article on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2010\/08\/ap-war-during-ramadan-081910\/\">War doesn&#8217;t rest for Islam holy month<\/a>&#8221; [<em>sic<\/em>].\u00a0 Though some may view it as a time of rest, particularly with fasting during the daylight hours, that does not translate directly into reduced combat.\u00a0 In fact, the opposite may be true:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen a surge one day and then they take one or two days off&#8230;,&#8221; says Lt. Col. Peter N. Benchoff&#8230; &#8220;But we have to watch &#8216;The Night of Power,&#8217; when they believe they have the best chance of getting straight to heaven.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is difficult to tell if some comments in the article might actually be\u00a0tongue in cheek:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The jihadists tend to get more excited during Ramadan, but they\u2019re fasting so the sugar levels start to decline by noon. Most of the fighting is done in the morning,&#8221; says Maj. Gen.
