Michael Weinstein recently published a letter “about the importance of supporting”\u00a0a left-leaning website that is apparently suffering a financial shortfall.\u00a0 The letter was used in a fundraising push<\/a> for the site,\u00a0for which MRFF ally Jason Leopold is a “managing editor” and Weinstein himself is\u00a0a board member.\u00a0 The message\u00a0included an allusion to his oft-repeated conspiracy theory that Christians are trying to take over the US military (and the world):\u00a0 <\/p>\n

This country has married weapons of mass destruction to crazy fundamentalist Christians…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Note that when Weinstein speaks about\u00a0what’s important to him, he falls back on Christians, not religious freedom.\u00a0 Of course, Weinstein even admits that fighting “evangelical religious fundamentalists”<\/a> — not defending\u00a0religious freedom — is the whole reason he created<\/em> his non-profit.<\/p>\n

Despite Weinstein’s occasional attempt to claim a high ground with respect to freedom or the Constitution, his own statements and actions demonstrate that Christians, not religious freedom, are the focus of his schemes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
