Brian Bews ejected from his CF-18 just moments before it impacted the ground at the Lethbridge County Airport in Alberta, Canada.\u00a0CNN.com carries a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/video\/#\/video\/world\/2010\/07\/23\/vo.ca.jet.crash.globalnews\">professional video of the crash<\/a> captured from the reviewing stand.\u00a0 In an interesting irony, the music playing from the flight line speakers is &#8220;Stayin&#8217; Alive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>High resolution photos of the incident taken by Ian Martens of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lethbridgeherald.com\/\">Lethbridge Herald<\/a> show the ejection sequence in amazingly precise detail.<\/p>\n<p>The first picture shows the seat leaving the aircraft:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/images\/cf181.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"471\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see Bews head hunched over, which is a fairly natural reaction but is a dangerous position to be in.\u00a0 Fortunately, he escaped with minor injuries.\u00a0 Note, too, that though the aircraft is in a high bank angle, the seat leaves the jet in an upward trajectory.\u00a0 Most modern ejection seats are &#8220;self-righting&#8221; in order to increase the distance from the ground prior to the chute opening.<\/p>\n<p>In the second photograph, Bews separates from the seat and begins to get an inflated parachute, fractions of a second after pulling the handle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/images\/cf182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"486\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The remaining photographs show the multi-ton, multi-million dollar airplane convert itself into spare parts and pieces:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/images\/cf183.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"548\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These and other photos can be seen both at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lethbridgeherald.com\/\">Lethbridge Herald<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/2010\/07\/24\/fighter-jet-pilot-ejects-instant-fiery-crash-canadian-air\/\">FoxNews<\/a>,\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/photoblog.msnbc.msn.com\/_news\/2010\/07\/23\/4739027-pilot-ejects-an-instant-before-fighterjet-crashes\">MSNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canadian Capt.
