{"id":6251,"date":"2010-07-09T00:30:46","date_gmt":"2010-07-09T06:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=6251"},"modified":"2015-06-27T19:16:06","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T22:16:06","slug":"mcchrystal-petraeus-replacement-hurts-us-muslim-relations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/09\/mcchrystal-petraeus-replacement-hurts-us-muslim-relations\/","title":{"rendered":"McChrystal, Petraeus Replacement Hurts US-Muslim Relations?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK&#8217;s Guardian has said that General Stanley McChrystal&#8217;s ouster <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/commentisfree\/cifamerica\/2010\/jun\/30\/stanley-mcchrystal-us-military\">from leading NATO forces in Afghanistan has dealt a blow<\/a> to a long and slow improvement in US-Muslim relations.\u00a0 The article summed it up this way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>McChrystal&#8217;s strategy in Afghanistan also had major implications for US relations with the world&#8217;s 1.4bn Muslims. McChrystal&#8217;s message was simple: we respect you. We honor you. We are here to protect you. You have a great religion and a great culture, and we will help you preserve it and secure a future for your children.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The article calls the choice of <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/24\/petraeus-to-replace-mcchrystal-in-afghanistan\/\">General Petraeus to replace McChrystal<\/a> &#8220;solid,&#8221; which has been the general feeling in the public (Petraeus was approved unanimously in the Senate).\u00a0 Ironically, however, while McChrystal apparently sported friendly credentials with the local Muslim populations, <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2008\/08\/21\/under-orders-under-fire\/\">Petraeus has been accused<\/a> of being a fundamentalist Christian predator, at least by one person:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>General Petraeus has, by his own hand, become a quintessential poster child of this fundamentalist Christian religious predation, <!--more-->via his unadulterated and shocking public endorsement of a book touting both Christian supremacy and exceptionalism.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As recently as\u00a0last January <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/07\/atheist-lawsuit-against-us-military-dismissed\/\">Petraeus was still named in Michael\u00a0Weinstein&#8217;s now-defunct lawsuit<\/a> against the Department of Defense, which Weinstein has made an unfulfilled promise to appeal.\u00a0 Weinstein also made the threateningly vague demand that Petraeus &#8220;preserve his records,&#8221; though he has apparently done nothing to follow through.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The coup de grace, however,\u00a0was this MRFF press release by Weinstein after accusing Petraeus of causing a national security risk:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Petraeus&#8217;s immediate dismissal and trial by General Courts-Martial under Article 134 is not merely warranted but demanded!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If Michael Weinstein had gotten his way, the man who is largely credited for &#8220;saving&#8221; the US effort in Iraq, has now been handpicked\u00a0by the President to do the same in Afghanistan, and\u00a0is a virtual American hero would have been drummed out of the military just as the &#8220;surge&#8221; was showing results in Iraq.\u00a0 Talk about hitching your cart to the wrong horse.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, all of this is coming from a man\u00a0whose organization\u00a0also said James Dobson is <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/29\/weinstein-reveals-vendetta-in-demanding-removal-of-cross\/\">secretly running a shadow American government<\/a> with Dick Cheney.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his vitriolic attack in 2008, Weinstein and his MRFF have said nothing about the replacement of the Muslim-relation-improving McChrystal with the &#8216;Christian supremacist&#8217; Petraeus.\u00a0 MRFF&#8217;s silence on their Petraeus\u00a0issue &#8212; which has not changed\u00a0since the original complaint &#8212; is likely a conscious choice of self-preservation.\u00a0 Weinstein likely chooses his battles for\u00a0public relations (and fundraising) impact; Petraeus is hugely politically popular right now, and Weinstein would gain nothing by vilifying him in the press &#8212; despite the fact he already <em>has<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Weinstein is not the only one whose <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/jul\/5\/3-years-later-democrats-cast-petraeus-in-new-light\/\">public treatment of Petraeus has reportedly changed<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK&#8217;s Guardian has said that General Stanley McChrystal&#8217;s ouster from leading NATO forces in Afghanistan has dealt a blow to a long and slow improvement in US-Muslim relations.\u00a0 The article summed it up this way: McChrystal&#8217;s strategy in Afghanistan also had major implications for US relations with the world&#8217;s 1.4bn Muslims.
