{"id":5494,"date":"2010-05-21T00:30:54","date_gmt":"2010-05-21T08:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=5494"},"modified":"2010-05-22T10:04:29","modified_gmt":"2010-05-22T18:04:29","slug":"latest-mojave-cross-mysteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/21\/latest-mojave-cross-mysteries\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Mojave Cross Mysteries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Update<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 The recently erected cross at the Mojave site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/article\/20100521\/replacement-memorial-cross-torn-down\/index.html\">has been removed<\/a>, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.signonsandiego.com\/news\/2010\/may\/20\/replica-cross-in-mojave-desert-comes-down\/\">local sites<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Just a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/13\/letter-claims-responsibility-for-mojave-cross-theft\/\">week after it was stolen<\/a>, and a few days after a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/18\/mojave-memorial-reward-increased\/\">huge reward was offered<\/a>, the World War I memorial in the Mojave National Preserve in southern California may have been returned&#8230;maybe.<\/p>\n<p>The caretakers for the site had already built a replacement, but had said they wouldn&#8217;t erect it without permission from the government, because to do so would have made them as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2010\/05\/19\/new-mojave-desert-cross-sits-limbo-california-desert\/\">bad as those who stole it<\/a>:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We feel like if we did that, then we&#8217;d be no better than the people that took it,&#8221; [caretaker Wanda Sandoz] said. &#8220;We have to abide the law, like it or not.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yesterday, a white cross suddenly appeared on the site.\u00a0 The National Park Service said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2010\/05\/20\/authorities-replica-cross-placed-mojave-desert-war-memorial\/\">it would be removed<\/a> because it was an illegal replacement; then someone started wondering if the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2010\/05\/20\/mojave-cross-replaced-overnight-officials-tear\/\">original cross had not been <em>replaced<\/em> but <em>returned<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 Now the NPS says it will figure out if it is the original cross, and, if so, it can stay.\u00a0 Otherwise, it comes down.<\/p>\n<p>Because a <em>replica<\/em> of the cross would somehow be illegal while the thing of which it was a physical duplicate\u00a0would not be&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update:\u00a0 The recently erected cross at the Mojave site has been removed, according to local sites.
