Col. Walker &#8220;Bud&#8221; &#8220;Honest John&#8221; Mahurin, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/2010\/05\/ap_obit_mahurin_051710\/\">credited with 24.25 kills<\/a> in both WWII theatres and the Korean War, passed away on May 11 at the age of 91. \u00a0Besides shooting down aircraft in three theatres, Mahurin had the dubious honor of being\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123204788\">shot down in each one<\/a>.\u00a0 He escaped France with the aid of the French resistance (as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/reviews.htm#yeager\">did Chuck Yeager<\/a>).\u00a0 Yeager talked his way into continuing to fly in Europe (despite his exposure to the underground); Mahurin went to the Pacific theatre instead.\u00a0 In the later conflict, Mahurin\u00a0was a Korean POW for 16 months.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are wondering, &#8220;honest John&#8221; <!--more-->may denote someone\u00a0who is sincere, or\u00a0one who is\u00a0so trusting and innocent (read: naive) that he is\u00a0easily cheated or deceived.\u00a0 It would be interesting to hear how Mahurin got his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/fighterpilotspeak.htm#Callsign\">callsign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mahurin will be interred at Arlington National Cemetary in August.\u00a0 The timing likely reflects the long delays in Arlington funerals over the past few years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ret.
