{"id":4523,"date":"2010-03-30T00:25:58","date_gmt":"2010-03-30T08:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=4523"},"modified":"2010-03-29T18:27:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-30T02:27:00","slug":"chaplains-take-notes-on-deployment-kits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/30\/chaplains-take-notes-on-deployment-kits\/","title":{"rendered":"Chaplains Take Notes on Deployment Kits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many military members who deploy have &#8220;kits&#8221; of items that they take with them, some for personal reasons, other for professional.\u00a0 Some military branches and specialties also issue kits with required items for the servicemembers in those fields.<\/p>\n<p>Chaplains are no exception.\u00a0 Over at the <a href=\"http:\/\/armychaplaincy.com\/\">Army Chaplaincy Blog<\/a>, Chaplain Daniel Sparks has a picture and <a href=\"http:\/\/armychaplaincy.com\/2010\/03\/23\/a-combat-tested-portable-field-altar-arrangement-part-1\/\">list of the things he packs in his &#8220;Chaplain&#8217;s Kit&#8221;<\/a> when he deploys.\u00a0 While size and weight are certainly important, Sparks also mentions another important factor:<!--more-->\u00a0<em>time<\/em>.\u00a0 The Chaplain is from a liturgical background, and he mentions selecting an order of worship that will be brief, as he must be prepared to perform services in combat conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Chaplains are by no means the only ones to pack these kits.\u00a0 The Navy&#8217;s Buddhist Chaplain is currently in Afghanistan, and last year there was a discussion on <a href=\"http:\/\/buddhistmilitarysangha.blogspot.com\/\">her website<\/a> about <a href=\"http:\/\/buddhistmilitarysangha.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/hello-to-all.html\">creating a Buddhist Chaplain&#8217;s kit<\/a>.\u00a0 Apparently there are &#8220;denominations,&#8221; if you will, of Buddhism which make packing a &#8220;universal&#8221; Buddhist kit challenging as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many military members who deploy have &#8220;kits&#8221; of items that they take with them, some for personal reasons, other for professional.\u00a0 Some military branches and specialties also issue kits with required items for the servicemembers in those fields.
