She is also a Major in the Army National Guard and a recently declared presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>She is also a Hindu.<\/p>\n<p>In response to criticisms regarding her religion and her political aspirations, Gabbard wrote a strongly worded rebuttal published at Religion News Service saying &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/religionnews.com\/2019\/01\/26\/tulsi-gabbard-religious-bigotry-is-un-american\/\">religious bigotry is un-American<\/a>&#8221; [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While the headlines covering my announcement could have celebrated this historic first [a Hindu presidential candidate], and maybe even informed Americans about the world\u2019s third largest religion, some have instead fomented suspicion, fear and religious bigotry about not only me but also my supporters&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Some media outlets have chosen to craft a false narrative of intrigue by profiling and targeting all of my donors who have names of Hindu origin and accusing them of being \u201cHindu nationalists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Today it\u2019s the profiling and targeting of Hindu Americans and ascribing to them motives without any basis<\/strong>. <strong>Tomorrow will it be Muslim or Jewish Americans? Japanese, Hispanic or African Americans?<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While Gabbard is right to protest <!--more-->vitriol pointed toward her because of her religion, her apparent personal offense is misplaced.\u00a0\u00a0She almost seems to genuinely believe she\u00a0is the first person to have her credibility questioned because of her religious beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Only <em>now<\/em>, apparently, is she concerned what &#8220;tomorrow&#8221; may bring for Muslims, Jews, Japanese, Hispanics, and African Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, <strong>she left out Christians,<\/strong> and she even went so far as to imply that bigotry toward religion only applied to <em>minority<\/em> faiths [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Religious bigotry and attempts to foment fear of Hindus and other <strong>minority<\/strong> religions persist.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Finally, though, she acknowledged religious bigotry is an <em>ongoing<\/em> issue &#8212; and that it even occurs against Christians, when she mentioned a recent event:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democratic Senators have recently grilled and opposed Republican judicial nominees because of their connection to Catholicism.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Interestingly, she chose to leave the &#8220;Democratic Senators&#8221; anonymous, while calling out a Republican by name. Two of <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2019\/01\/03\/democrats-concerned-because-of-nominees-christian-beliefs-again\/\">those Senators<\/a> were <strong>Kamala Harris<\/strong> &#8212; a fellow presidential candidate &#8212; and <strong>Mazie Hirono<\/strong> &#8212; a fellow Hawaiian Senator. That might explain her gentle handling of the accusation of bigotry.\u00a0 The other two, in a <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2017\/09\/12\/democrat-senators-again-grill-trump-nominees-on-religious-beliefs\/\"><em>separate<\/em> incident over Catholicism<\/a>, were senior\u00a0Senators <strong>Dianne Feinstein<\/strong> and <strong>Dick Durbin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, that&#8217;s it.\u00a0 That&#8217;s all\u00a0Gabbard says about Christians, bigotry, and the US government, despite the fact that for <em>years<\/em> Christians have faced bigotry as they attempted to serve in public office. She alludes to the recent actions against Catholics, but she ignores the actions of Senator <strong>Bernie Sanders<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2017\/06\/12\/the-religious-test-of-russell-vought-but-not-mark-green\/\">who acted prejudicially<\/a> toward a Protestant Christian nominee. She says nothing about the treatment of <strong>Mark Green<\/strong>, another nominee <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2017\/05\/05\/mark-green-withdraws-from-nomination-for-secretary-of-the-army\/\">vilified for his Christian faith<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She says nothing of current Secretary of State <strong>Mike Pompeo<\/strong>, whom Senator <strong>Cory Booker<\/strong> voted against <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/booker-pompeo-shouldnt-lead-state-dept-because-he-doesnt-love-the-people\/\">because of his Christian beliefs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She also ignored the treatment of Vice President <strong>Mike Pence<\/strong> and his wife, who have been <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2019\/01\/29\/in-defense-of-mike-pence\/\">castigated in the media<\/a> over their faith.<\/p>\n<p>Despite her outcry about a Hindu being called out &#8220;today&#8221; and people &#8220;ascribing to them motives without any basis,&#8221; Gabbard has ignored the treatment of fellow US servicemembers who have been accused of\u00a0treason by\u00a0<strong>Michael &#8220;Mikey&#8221; Weinstein<\/strong>. Weinstein\u00a0targets military Christians, claiming they&#8217;re &#8220;nationalists&#8221; and &#8220;dominionists&#8221; trying to take over the world &#8212; notably, &#8220;without any basis&#8221; &#8212; and his bigotry has been largely unopposed, particularly by Democrats in government (while <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2017\/11\/27\/senators-scold-air-force-over-treatment-of-col-leland-bohannon-religious-liberty\/\">Republicans<\/a> have <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2014\/04\/17\/congressmen-call-air-force-religion-rules-unconstitutional\/\">repeatedly<\/a> spoken and acted in <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2015\/04\/13\/congressman-collins-backs-fired-navy-chaplain-modder\/\">defense<\/a> of military religious freedom).<\/p>\n<p>It turns out longtime politician Tulsi Gabbard said <strong>nothing<\/strong> publicly in <strong>defense<\/strong> of the religious liberties of these public servants and nominees &#8212; at least until the finger was pointed at <em>her<\/em> because of <em>her<\/em> religion.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that &#8220;tomorrow&#8221; finally came for her, and <em>now<\/em> she&#8217;s awakened to the blight of bigotry laid on religious freedom in America [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>These actions and attitudes not only undermine our Constitution<\/strong> but also incite fear and force people into the shadows because of their religion. Our Constitution clearly states that there shall be <strong>no religious test<\/strong> for any who seek to serve in public office&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What Rep Gabbard is saying, if you can see it, is that Mikey Weinstein undermines the Constitution and tries to incite fear over Christians and force them into the shadows because of their religion.\u00a0 That&#8217;s astute.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Those who are trying to foment anti-Hindu sentiment expose the dark underbelly of religious bigotry in politics and must be called out.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How about we call out <em>everyone<\/em> who is fomenting anti-<em>religious<\/em> sentiment, including those Democrats you coyly didn&#8217;t name?\u00a0 It&#8217;s not just about you, you know.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To advocate voting for or against someone based on religion, race or gender is simply un-American.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Welcome to America, Ms Gabbard.
