{"id":43155,"date":"2018-04-24T00:30:07","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T03:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=43155"},"modified":"2018-04-24T01:21:49","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T04:21:49","slug":"chris-rodda-rebuilds-destroys-pow-mia-bible-strawman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/24\/chris-rodda-rebuilds-destroys-pow-mia-bible-strawman\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Rodda Rebuilds, Destroys POW\/MIA Bible Strawman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Rodda &#8212; Michael &#8220;Mikey&#8221; Weinstein&#8217;s sometime research assistant &#8212; wrote a column yesterday at the Washington Examiner saying &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/bibles-dont-belong-on-pow-remembrance-tables\">Bibles don&#8217;t belong on POW remembrance tables<\/a>.&#8221; (Two years ago Rodda said <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2016\/07\/20\/chris-rodda-successfully-destroys-her-own-strawman\/\">the same thing<\/a>, though it was only self-published on the Huffington Post. The Examiner opportunity was apparently created by Mike Berry&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/op-eds\/leave-pow-remembrance-tables-alone\">article on the same website<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42874 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rodda3-300x202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rodda3-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/rodda3.png 639w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>It&#8217;s possible an editor chose her title (and also word-limited the normally <em>very<\/em> verbose Rodda), but it&#8217;s worth noting Rodda never gets around to saying <strong>why<\/strong> Bibles &#8216;don&#8217;t belong on POW tables.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>First, she says that, historically, early POW\/MIA remembrance tables didn&#8217;t have Bibles.\u00a0 She revisits her previous strawman by saying the American Legion doesn&#8217;t include Bibles in its remembrance ceremony, as if that is remotely relevant. Her point was <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2016\/07\/20\/chris-rodda-successfully-destroys-her-own-strawman\/\">long ago rebutted<\/a>: The issue isn&#8217;t what the Legion &#8212; or any other group &#8212; chooses to do; it&#8217;s what <strong>they prohibit others from doing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No one<\/strong> is traipsing around the country demanding Bibles be included on POW\/MIA tables &#8212; at the American Legion or anywhere else.\u00a0 What some Americans <em>are<\/em> doing is <!--more-->fighting back against those who are traipsing around the country demanding Bibles be <strong>excluded<\/strong> from those tables.<\/p>\n<p>The position Rodda is trying to defend &#8212; that Bibles should be <strong>removed<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>prohibited <\/strong>from POW\/MIA tables &#8212; is one promoted only by her MRFF and its supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Second, she says the Bible is <strong>not<\/strong> &#8220;a common symbol of faith.&#8221; Her flippant dismissal of the symbolic nature of the Bible also minimizes the very real impact of faith &#8212; and, yes, the Christian faith &#8212; on those POWs who returned with honor. No doubt, not every POW was a Christian, but the presence of a Bible doesn&#8217;t mean they <em>were.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Importantly, the Bible\u00a0<strong>is<\/strong> symbolic of the faith that <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2013\/05\/06\/vietnam-war-pow-shares-need-for-faith-of-the-american-airman\/\">helped them through<\/a> &#8212; for <em>every one of them<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Consider this statement <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2013\/05\/06\/vietnam-war-pow-shares-need-for-faith-of-the-american-airman\/\">from Capt Guy Gruters<\/a>, a POW in Vietnam [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The <strong>higher ranking officers<\/strong> often took the brunt of the beatings for their men. They encouraged subtle resistance and <strong>mandated that they take part in church services<\/strong> within their cells.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You think spiritual faith &#8212; even the Bible &#8212; might have meant something to <em>them<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Note that neither of Rodda&#8217;s points support the MRFF position that the government is <strong>required to prohibit the display of Bibles<\/strong> on POW\/MIA displays.\u00a0The responsibility falls on\u00a0Weinstein and Rodda\u00a0to justify\u00a0why a Bible doesn&#8217;t &#8220;belong on a POW remembrance table.&#8221; They fail to do so.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s one final and important note: Chris Rodda, Mikey Weinstein, and their MRFF are, <strong>of their own initiative and bigotry<\/strong>, proactively <em>attacking<\/em> these memorials &#8212; memorials intended to honor our POWs and MIAs.\u00a0 Note that despite their hue and cry of the Bible being a &#8220;loathsome&#8221; presence on the table, they don&#8217;t appear to have the support of <strong>a single POW<\/strong>.\u00a0 All of their clients are current service members or offended bystanders &#8212; and <em>the table isn&#8217;t for them<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is not about you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By contrast, there are <em>many<\/em> POWs who have supported what Chris Rodda and Mikey Weinstein have attacked: They have publicly stated that faith &#8212; even biblical faith &#8212; was a key factor to their ability to return with honor.\u00a0 (And to be fair, none has\u00a0publicly promoted Islam, Buddhism, atheism, etc., as integral to the spiritual strength and resilience of the group of POWs.)<\/p>\n<p>Those POW\/MIAs should be honored and memorialized &#8212; as should the faith that helped them so.\u00a0 <strong>The memorial is <em>for them<\/em><\/strong>, that they and their sacrifice should not be forgotten.\u00a0 The memorial is <strong>not<\/strong> for\u00a0satiating the every whim and offense of entitled bystanders.<\/p>\n<p>As to\u00a0Weinstein and Rodda, they\u00a0should be publicly shamed for their despicable and disrespectful\u00a0attack on the memorials of\u00a0those men and women &#8212; men and women who sacrificed much to protect Chris Rodda&#8217;s freedom to respond to their sacrifice\u00a0with hate.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-show-faces=\"true\" data-size=\"small\" data-action=\"like\" data-layout=\"standard\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><strong>ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- blogpost --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-slot=\"2728423835\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6450825356098669\"><\/ins><script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Rodda &#8212; Michael &#8220;Mikey&#8221; Weinstein&#8217;s sometime research assistant &#8212; wrote a column yesterday at the Washington Examiner saying &#8220;Bibles don&#8217;t belong on POW remembrance tables.&#8221; (Two years ago Rodda said the same thing, though it was only self-published on the Huffington Post.
