Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, asked last week<\/a> if the US military was creating its own problems<\/strong> by sending “mixed signals on morality”. Speaking on the recent firing of an Army General who had sent “flirty” messages to another man’s wife, Perkins said:<\/p>\n

It is wrong because its immoral. It violates the moral law of the Creator.<\/p>\n

But this is what happens when society thinks it can give a green light to some forms of immoral behavior while red lighting others. You end up with moral confusion…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When we deny that there is a moral law and a moral law Giver, it leads to confusion and chaos. And we’ve seen this increasingly within the ranks of our nation’s military. And this is dangerous…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Perkins’ commentary should<\/em> be a statement of the obvious.<\/p>\n

It used to be that society largely acknowledged the basic precepts of right and wrong. That’s not to say society always agreed, supported, or didn’t attempt to undermine those concepts — but it at least acknowledged<\/em> them. That’s why until just the past couple of years no one needed a law<\/strong> to tell them marriage is between a man and a woman<\/strong>, or that a man<\/strong> shouldn’t enter a private area designated for women <\/strong>(or vice versa).<\/p>\n

There have been reasonable, rational lines of separation between the (distinct) genders since time immemorial — because there are very good<\/strong>, very objective<\/strong> reasons for recognizing the differences between men and women<\/a> — reasons that uphold<\/em> the dignity of both men and women.<\/p>\n

After all, “what did these geniuses expect?”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>When society starts intentionally blurring<\/strong> those lines, it makes it more difficult for some to stay on the right side of those lines.<\/p>\n

Wouldn’t it be so much simpler — and much more right<\/strong> — if we returned to a consistent moral standard?<\/p>\n

\u201cTeacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?\u201d 37 And he said to him, \u201cYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.\u201d
