{"id":4181,"date":"2010-03-09T00:35:22","date_gmt":"2010-03-09T08:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=4181"},"modified":"2010-03-08T21:45:44","modified_gmt":"2010-03-09T05:45:44","slug":"air-traffic-control-even-a-child-could-do-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2010\/03\/09\/air-traffic-control-even-a-child-could-do-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Traffic Control: Even a Child Could Do It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By now most have likely heard about the air traffic controller, Glenn Duffy, who reportedly brought his 9 year old twin children to work and allowed them to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/story\/0,2933,587801,00.html\">make several radio transmission to airliners<\/a>\u00a0on the tower frequency.\u00a0 The FAA and ATC union were quick to respond, with the FAA suspending not only the controller, but also his supervisor, Rose Kelly.\u00a0 The union said the behavior was &#8220;not indicative of the highest professional standards&#8221; of controller operations.<\/p>\n<p>Pilots and controllers sometimes have an adversarial relationship.\u00a0 Pilots get annoyed at being told what they think is the wrong thing to do, and controllers often get annoyed at pilots who always think they know better.\u00a0 (In that regard, ATC controllers and fighter pilots may have much in common.)\u00a0 Rightly or wrongly, some pilots also blame controllers for some fatal mishaps.\u00a0 Gallows humor asks\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>What&#8217;s the difference between an air traffic controller and a pilot?<br \/>\n<\/em>When the pilot screws up, the pilot dies. When the air traffic controller screws up, the pilot dies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To be fair, many pilots also acknowledge the professionalism and skill of ATC controllers.\u00a0 Some air traffic controllers have actually saved the lives of pilots, and it is a rare few who do not recognize the life and death power they have over the aircraft they control.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, it appears <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2010\/03\/06\/Pilots-rally-around-JFK-controller\/UPI-20021267889459\/\">pilots are backing\u00a0the ATC controller<\/a>.\u00a0 Most aviators seem to think its being blown out of proportion (in sharing their opinion, one editorial even went so far as to say &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gazette.com\/opinion\/unpunished-95268-dad-view.html\">no good dad goes unpunished<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<p>At no time was there any realistic danger to any person or aircraft.
