{"id":41056,"date":"2017-06-16T00:30:39","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T03:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=41056"},"modified":"2017-06-16T10:48:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T13:48:00","slug":"first-woman-on-a-fast-attack-sub-raises-interesting-question","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/16\/first-woman-on-a-fast-attack-sub-raises-interesting-question\/","title":{"rendered":"First Woman on a Fast Attack Sub Raises Interesting Question"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even though neither President Trump nor Secretary of Defense James Mattis issued any kind of &#8220;gay pride month&#8221; proclamations, quite a few lower level military\u00a0units are proceeding with such celebrations anyway.\u00a0 In that spirit, Ashley Broadway&#8217;s American Military Partner Association, a homosexual activist group, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/LGBTmilitaryfamilies\/photos\/a.252764428077760.62830.219835711370632\/1530996146921242\/?type=3&amp;theater\">posted a picture<\/a> to its Facebook page of the &#8220;first woman to report to a fast attack submarine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-41058\" src=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/karasmith.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"799\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/karasmith.png 545w, https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/karasmith-205x300.png 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 545px) 100vw, 545px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the picture, then-LtJG Kara Smith sports a hat from <!--more-->the USS <em>Virginia.<\/em> In 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/news\/navy\/1st-female-officer-reports-to-submarine-uss-minnesota-1.323819\">the Navy said<\/a> a different fast attack submarine &#8212; the USS <em>Minnesota<\/em> &#8212; had the first female submariner, though it did not name any of the women on either of the two subs to first host both genders. It would seem there may be a few details missing.<\/p>\n<p>Still, in the never-ending search for &#8220;firsts,&#8221; now-Lieutenant Smith does seem to be the first <em>homosexual<\/em> woman to report aboard a fast attack submarine, which begs an interesting question.<\/p>\n<p>The US Navy went through at least a little <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/military\/sdut-women-submarines-very-successful-2012may24-story.html\">thought on organizing submarines<\/a> to provide some degree of segregation and privacy between the sexes once women were allowed onboard. The reason for such accommodations is obvious, even if not politically correct. (The <em>need<\/em> for privacy was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navytimes.com\/story\/military\/2015\/12\/08\/report-sailor-ring-repeatedly-filmed-undressing-women-sub\/75924474\/\">highlighted not long thereafter<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Now, what degree of segregation and privacy is provided to the heterosexual women on the submarines?
