Sgt. Jason Boatwright, a US Army Chaplain’s\u00a0Assistant, has been\u00a0named both the Installation Management Command and National Capital Region Soldier of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This humble Heidelberg garrison chaplain assistant has earned the chance to compete in the Department of the Army “Warrior Challenge” competition at Fort Lee, Va., Sept. 28 – Oct. 2.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to the Command Sergeant Major, Boatwright is well respected for his work ethic and attitude:<\/p>\n

Sgt. Boatwright is a dedicated warrior who lives the Army Values.\u00a0\u00a0He is the epitome of what you want in all enlisted Soldiers entering our ranks. He always gives 100 percent in every task. He embodies the warrior ethos and is definitely an outstanding leader who motivates others just by his presence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While the job description may vary slightly from service to service, one of the primary functions of an Army Chaplain’s assistant is to protect the Chaplain, who does not carry a weapon in combat.\u00a0 The assistant acts as driver and bodyguard for the Chaplain in combat.<\/p>\n
