Jamie LaRivee, a 21st Airlift Squadron C-17 Globemaster III pilot, saw her mother as a role model, and watched her excel in an Air Force career, making LaRivee certain she would follow in her mother\u2019s boot steps&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>You can\u2019t pretend that we are built the exact same way as men<\/strong>. But, there are so many ways that we can, if not overcome it, become better,\u201d LaRivee said&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In a 1996 speech made by LaRivee\u2019s mother, <strong>the message of femininity in the military<\/strong> rang out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest <strong>challenges of being a woman in the military<\/strong> has <!--more-->and will continue to be balancing <strong>strength with sensitivity<\/strong>, confidence with humility,\u201d said retired Lt. Col. Marianne LaRivee&#8230;\u201cWe want to show that we can do our jobs well while also staying true to ourselves as women&#8211;daughters, sisters and mothers. That we can do what our country asks of us while also <strong>living up to the cultural expectations and responsibilities of our gender<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s a somewhat different take than most stories of that nature.
