In an awkward and yet completely predictable move, an atheist activist is complaining that a Christmas sign was erected alongside an atheist<\/a> “there are no gods” sign in Shelton, Connecticut.<\/p>\n

Hemant Mehta, who works as the “Friendly Atheist” blogger, whined that the Christmas sign<\/a> raised next to the anti-Christmas sign [emphasis added]<\/p>\n

may seem innocuous enough \u2014 and perfectly legal \u2014 but it\u2019s another sign of how little atheists are respected in the community…<\/p>\n

Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti couldn\u2019t handle that atheist message<\/strong>, which is why he felt compelled to put up his own sign<\/strong> wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While many atheists are content to let people say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, groups of perpetually offended militant atheists “can’t handle that [Christmas] message,” so they troll the country looking for Christmas displays they can remove. When they’re unsuccessful, they then try to raise “counter<\/em>-displays” that, rather than celebrate anything,\u00a0denigrate the beliefs of Christians — preferably making the situation so toxic that all displays are banned in the process.<\/p>\n

In fact, on the very same day Mehta put up this blog post, he put up another praising the plan by atheists to raise a satanist display next year<\/a> to counter a Nativity scene in the Massachusetts state house. (Notice, atheists aren’t proposing an atheistic<\/em> display, but rather a theistic<\/em> display — one they think will be the most irksome to those they want to offend.)<\/p>\n

By contrast, note the Shelton display says nothing more than “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.” It denigrates no one.<\/p>\n

Mehta’s conclusion about the Christmas sign raised alongside the atheist one was filled with hypocrisy:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not that what Lauretti did was illegal. It\u2019s just a petty, spiteful move.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As spoken by a petty, spiteful atheist.\u00a0 Nice work, Hemant.<\/p>\n
