I’m just sick to my stomach. Not basically because the Republicans won or anything, but the disgusting tenor and tone and all of the comments that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic.<\/p>\n
I live in that country where half of the people ignored all of that to elect someone<\/strong>. That’s the scariest part of the whole thing to me. It’s got nothing to do with the environment and Obamacare, and all of the other stuff. We live in a country that ignored all of those values<\/strong> that we would hold our kids accountable for. They’d be grounded for years if they acted and said the things that have been said in that campaign by Donald Trump.<\/p><\/blockquote>\nMany others have similarly taken to the talking-head circuit or the internet to bemoan Christians supporting Donald Trump, who\u00a0has done things that are decidely unChrist-like.<\/p>\n
What Popovich and many weeping\u00a0Americans\u00a0like him fail to acknowledge, though, is that the opposite<\/em> side of the electoral ballot held values that the other<\/em> half of the country felt just as strongly about. Hillary Clinton, after all, was as much a ‘sinner’ as Donald Trump. Take Clinton’s views on abortion, for just one example, now graphically documented thanks to her own statements during the presidential debates.<\/p>\nUsing Popovich’s words, one could just as easily say ‘we live in a country where half of the people knew a politician would defend laws that allow an innocent child to be killed, and yet they voted for her anyway.’\u00a0A great many Christians voted for Clinton, despite the fact she has done things that are — just like Trump — decidedly unChrist-like.<\/p>\n
Many people viewed the election as an unenviable choice between\u00a0the lesser of two evils. That Popovich or others feel Democrat candidates were the lesser evil does not make that evil any less so, nor their ideological opponents evil as a result.<\/p>\n
