Multiple news outlets reported on<\/a> Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter’s statement<\/a> about the\u00a05-year anniversary of the repeal of the policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The most quoted<\/a> line:<\/p>\n

I am proud to report that five years after the implementation of the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” our military…is stronger than ever…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In reality, that statement doesn’t say anything. Insert just about any subject matter and time period and the sentence’s assertion wouldn’t change.<\/p>\n

The implication, though, and the conclusion trumpeted by gay rights advocates, is that the US military is stronger because<\/em> of the repeal of DADT.<\/p>\n

Naturally, there’s no data to support that implication.\u00a0 In fact,\u00a0the Department of Defense (which Secretary Carter runs) has repeatedly said DADT repeal had\u00a0no<\/strong> effect<\/a> on military readiness.<\/p>\n

It’s also unclear how a US military that is “stronger than ever” could be hemorrhaging pilots<\/a>, woefully underbudgeted, and have extraordinarily expensive ships<\/a> and planes<\/a> that can’t go a few days without breaking down. Is the military in a position of “strategic risk<\/a>,” or is it “stronger than ever?”\u00a0 And why does sexual behavior have anything to do with either?<\/p>\n

The strength<\/strong> of an organization is predicated on the character<\/strong> of the people within it. The character of those people is founded upon justice<\/strong> and morality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Undermine the morality of an organization, and you undermine its strength.<\/p>\n

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.<\/p>\n

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.<\/p>\n

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God\u2019s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.<\/p>\n
