{"id":35912,"date":"2016-08-23T00:15:25","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T03:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=35912"},"modified":"2016-11-24T21:06:48","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T00:06:48","slug":"humanists-threaten-suit-over-veterans-memorial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/23\/humanists-threaten-suit-over-veterans-memorial\/","title":{"rendered":"Humanists Threaten Suit over Veterans Memorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Atheists are, <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2015\/08\/24\/another-military-memorial-under-attack\/\">again<\/a>, attacking a veteran&#8217;s memorial because it has a cross, this time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/union\/index.ssf\/2016\/08\/cross_display_disrespects_non-christian_veterans_h.html#comments\">in New Jersey<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35913\" src=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/memorialnj.jpg\" alt=\"memorialnj\" width=\"612\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/memorialnj.jpg 612w, https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/memorialnj-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In an Aug. 11 letter to Mayor Carl Hokanson, the American Humanist Association threatened to bring litigation if the borough did not immediately take down the display.<\/p>\n<p>The design violates <!--more-->the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and suggests the borough values the sacrifice of Christian soldiers to the exclusion of others, the non-profit group said in its letter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The silhouette of a Soldier kneeling at a small cross no more establishes religion than do the crosses at Normandy from which the iconic symbology originates.<\/p>\n<p>Those who say otherwise are stretching to find offense because of the shape of a piece of metal.
