{"id":354,"date":"2009-06-24T21:11:49","date_gmt":"2009-06-25T01:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=354"},"modified":"2009-11-21T21:16:38","modified_gmt":"2009-11-22T05:16:38","slug":"update-f-16-pilot-killed-in-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/24\/update-f-16-pilot-killed-in-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: F-16 Pilot Killed in Crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As previously <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=350\">noted<\/a>, Captain George Bryan Houghton, a 2002 USAF Academy graduate, was killed in an F-16 crash in Utah.\u00a0 He was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123155730\">reportedly<\/a> flying in a four-ship night close air support (CAS) training mission at the time, and he <a href=\"http:\/\/www.standard.net\/live\/news\/176853\/\">crashed<\/a> during an attack run.\u00a0 Night attacks in a CAS scenario can potentially be some of the most challenging&#8211;and dangerous&#8211;that an F-16 pilot flies.\u00a0 According to one news <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksl.com\/index.php?nid=148&#038;sid=6910228\">report<\/a>, his unit was preparing for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Houghton&#8217;s family has a military tradition.\u00a0 One younger brother was injured in an Afghanistan helicopter incident; another is currently at the Air Force Academy.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Houghton\u2019s father <a href=\"http:\/\/citizen-times.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20090623\/NEWS01\/90623088\">said<\/a> his son \u201chad such a sense of duty to God and county\u201d \u2013 and to his two brothers. \u201cIf you fought one, you fought them all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Houghton \u201cknew it was a dangerous profession he was in.
