\"mikeywilliams\"Last month, Michael “Mikey” Weinstein claimed he had made an “important achievement<\/a>” in “rebuilding the shattered wall separating church and state!” because, according to him, the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Recruiting Service<\/a> promised to remove a chaplain recruiting video Weinstein found “inappropriate.” According to Weinstein<\/a>, MajGen Garrett Harencak<\/p>\n

responded within a few hours that all Chaplain [sic<\/em>] videos are being removed pursuant to an overhaul of \u2018AirForce.com\u2019 and that he would see to it that the removal of this particular video is accelerated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A month later, not only is the video still up at AirForce.com<\/a> — but, in unusually blunt words, the Air Force is actually defending<\/strong> it<\/a> [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n

Air Force Headquarters at the Pentagon told Military.com it does not see a problem with [the video]…<\/p>\n

“Chaplains being available to airmen for spiritual support, and sharing these experiences in their official capacity, does not violate the establishment clause or Air Force regulations<\/strong>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There are three important issues here:\u00a0 <\/p>\n

  3. The Air Force’s new response<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The Chaplain Recruiting Video<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The Air Force chaplain recruiting video can be seen below. It’s actually a very well done\u00a02+30 minute\u00a0video about the appropriately-named then-US Air Force Chaplain (Capt) Christian Williams<\/strong>. The “objectionable” part starts just before the 2 minute mark, when Chaplain Williams says of a female Airman [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n

    Before we left Iraq, she told me that “As a result of the example that I saw you set<\/strong>, not just when you were on that plane, but when you walked around this installation, I have accepted Christ<\/strong> as my personal Lord and Savior.”<\/p>\n

    You can’t put a price tag on that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
