The new bomber looks strikingly like the Air Force&#8217;s old bomber:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34594\" src=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/b21.jpg\" alt=\"b21\" width=\"670\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/b21.jpg 670w, https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/b21-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/>The as-yet unnamed bomber has been designated the B-21. (The similarity in appearance to the B-2 already has some re-designating it the &#8220;B-2.1&#8221;.) While that number would <!--more-->seem to be in the middle of those used during World War II, it doesn&#8217;t appear a B-21 was ever fielded between the B-17 Flying Fortress or B-24 Liberator.<\/p>\n<p>The cost for the programs is naturally in the billions, with individual airframes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/USA\/Military\/2016\/0227\/The-B-21-At-500-million-each-is-this-a-better-bomber\">estimated by some<\/a> at $500 million.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James indicated the bomber&#8217;s name will be chosen from suggestions from Airmen. More than 100 comments have already hit the normally-quiet AF.mil page.
