{"id":34499,"date":"2016-02-03T00:30:35","date_gmt":"2016-02-03T03:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=34499"},"modified":"2016-11-24T22:13:56","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T01:13:56","slug":"us-naval-academy-chapels-donate-270000-to-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/03\/us-naval-academy-chapels-donate-270000-to-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"US Naval Academy Chapels Donate $270,000 to Charity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a US Naval Academy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.navy.mil\/submit\/display.asp?story_id=92836\">press release<\/a>, the chapel communities at Annapolis donated $270,000 to charities in 2015.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Twice per year, in January and July, the United States Naval Academy (USNA) Chaplains Office spends down the religious offering fund to under $5,000 in order to ensure that <!--more-->the contributions are being spent in accordance with the wishes of the congregations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The donors give these funds as an expression of their faith and their desire to share with others and to help others who are in need,&#8221; said Capt. Michael Gore, senior chaplain.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tithing\/offering is a fundamental Christian exercise, and some military members choose to contribute to the military chapel they attend, even if the chapel doesn&#8217;t need to pay for a building or a pastor&#8217;s salary. Instead, the funds go to support ministries of the chapel or outside charities.<\/p>\n<p>In that regard, it is notable that a group of military atheists, assisted by the MRFF&#8217;s Chris Rodda,\u00a0once demanded <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2011\/03\/10\/rock-beyond-belief-funded-b-from-the-christian-collection-plate\/\">&#8220;equal access&#8221; to the local chapel funds<\/a> their Christian peers had.
