Saint had flown the group out in his PA-13 and landed on a riverbank.<\/p>\n<p>The story made international news, including a 10-page story in LIFE Magazine entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=gT8EAAAAMBAJ&amp;pg=PA10&amp;dq=life+magazine+jim+elliot&amp;hl=en#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\">Go Ye and Preach the Gospel &#8211; Five Do and Die<\/a>.&#8221; The US Air Force deployed <!--more-->a rescue helicopter from Panama, flown by Maj Malcolm Nurnberg. Saint&#8217;s story became the book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1572930225\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1572930225&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=chrifighpilo-20&amp;linkId=4OGOPKS76IP6AFGB\"><em>Jungle Pilot<\/em><\/a>, originally published in 1959, which has inspired generations to enter the field of both evangelism and missionary aviation.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot&#8217;s widow, Elisabeth Elliot, famous and well-respected in her own right, died <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2015\/06\/22\/elisabeth-elliot-famed-missionary-widow-dies-at-88\/\">just last year<\/a>, as did <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2014\/03\/05\/dayuma-auca-who-guided-nate-saint-has-died\/\">Dayuma<\/a> in 2014,\u00a0one of the original members of the tribe.
