{"id":34321,"date":"2015-12-30T00:30:49","date_gmt":"2015-12-30T03:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=34321"},"modified":"2015-12-30T01:04:47","modified_gmt":"2015-12-30T04:04:47","slug":"humanists-appeal-continue-attack-on-bladensburg-cross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2015\/12\/30\/humanists-appeal-continue-attack-on-bladensburg-cross\/","title":{"rendered":"Humanists Appeal, Continue Attack on Bladensburg Cross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a Federal judge&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/2015\/12\/03\/peace-cross-survives-mikey-weinsteins-lawsuits-now-0-for-6\/\">ruling against them<\/a> a few weeks ago, the American Humanist Association has now <a href=\"http:\/\/americanhumanist.org\/news\/details\/2015-12-humanist-group-appeals-lawsuit-against-bladensburg-c\">filed an appeal<\/a> of its lawsuit against the Bladensburg Peace Cross, a 90-year old World War I memorial in Maryland:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Bladensburg Cross is an enormous Christian symbol on government property and has the clear effect of endorsing religion,\u201d said Monica Miller, senior counsel for the Appignani Humanist Legal Center. \u201cWe will continue defending the First Amendment rights of <!--more-->our clients as well as all non-Christian service members who are excluded from the government\u2019s Latin cross monument.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ironically &#8212; if that can even be the right word &#8212; the American Humanist Association is simultaneously trying to make the case that it is &#8216;tolerant&#8217; enough of religion to justify the creation of a &#8220;humanist chaplain&#8221; within the US military&#8217;s chaplaincy.
