{"id":34137,"date":"2016-01-07T00:15:52","date_gmt":"2016-01-07T03:15:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/?p=34137"},"modified":"2016-11-24T22:18:38","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T01:18:38","slug":"military-chaplains-might-no-longer-conquer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2016\/01\/07\/military-chaplains-might-no-longer-conquer\/","title":{"rendered":"Military Chaplains Might No Longer &#8220;Conquer&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Daily Telegraph reports that the Australian Army is considering <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/news\/army-chaplains-to-remove-conquer-from-102-year-old-motto-because-it-is-offensive-to-muslims\/story-fni0cx4q-1227617586616?nk=15f873158ae7433c9a7ad8f7559d87d6-1449328192\">redesigning a military chaplaincy badge<\/a> that says &#8220;In this sign, conquer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a somewhat inflammatory reporting style [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Australian Army is <strong>removing the motto<\/strong> \u201cIn this sign conquer\u201d from the 102-year-old hat badges of army chaplains <strong>because it is offensive to Muslims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after an imam approved by the Grand Mufti was appointed to join the Religious Advisory Committee to the Services in June.<\/p>\n<p>Australian Army chaplains have had the motto on their hat badges since 1913.<\/p>\n<p>A Defence spokeswoman last <!--more-->night <strong>denied the motto was being changed because it was associated with the Crusades<\/strong>, when Christian armies fought Muslims in the Holy Land during the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe motto of the Australian Army Chaplains is being changed to better reflect the diversity of religion throughout the Australian Army,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.christianfighterpilot.com\/images\/adfbadge.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"307\" \/>Admittedly, the phrase is a little &#8220;different&#8221; for a modern military chaplaincy corps.
