Each day during the mission, flight controllers in the Mission Control Center will greet the crew with an appropriate musical interlude. \u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently, the music is chosen based on requests by the crew or their families.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/shuttle\/shuttlemissions\/sts125\/news\/STS-125-08.html\">This morning<\/a>, the Atlantis crew awoke to &#8220;God of Wonders,&#8221; as performed by members of Third Day and Caedmon&#8217;s Call on the <em>City on a Hill<\/em> album, for astronaut <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsc.nasa.gov\/Bios\/htmlbios\/good-mt.html\">Michael Good<\/a>.\u00a0 This morning&#8217;s transmission can be heard on NASA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceflight1.nasa.gov\/gallery\/audio\/shuttle\/sts-125\/mp3\/fd05.mp3\">site<\/a>.\u00a0 After the song was played, Astronaut Mike Good said he looked forward to a productive day that would &#8220;bring glory to the Lord of all creation.&#8221;\u00a0 From the transmission<!--more-->:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>CAPCOM Shannon Lucid: Good morning, Atlantis, and a special good morning to you today, Mike Good.<\/p>\n<p>Mission Specialist Mike Good:\u00a0 Good morning, Houston, and thanks for lifting us up even higher with that song this morning.\u00a0\u00a0 We\u2019re looking forward to going outside and working on Hubble and hopefully that will bring glory to the Lord of all creation.\u00a0 And a special hello to Joanie, Brian, Jason, and Shannon who I&#8217;m sure\u00a0will be watching along with me today.<\/p>\n<p>CAPCOM Shannon Lucid:\u00a0 Thanks a lot. We agree.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently the\u00a0song is a NASA favorite.\u00a0\u00a0It was played\u00a0in 2001 for Astronaut <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsc.nasa.gov\/Bios\/htmlbios\/lindsey.html\">Steve Lindsey<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/spaceflight.nasa.gov\/gallery\/audio\/shuttle\/sts-104\/wave\/fd03.wav\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 It was also the song\u00a0played for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsc.nasa.gov\/Bios\/htmlbios\/husband.html\">Rick Husband<\/a>, the commander of the ill-fated Columbia in 2003 (<a href=\"http:\/\/spaceflight.nasa.gov\/gallery\/audio\/shuttle\/sts-107\/wave\/fd06red.wav\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 Husband&#8217;s response to CAPCOM was &#8220;Boy, looking out the window, you can really tell He is the God of wonders, and we sure appreciate being able to take a look out and enjoy the view.&#8221;\u00a0 (Ironically, Lennon&#8217;s <em>Imagine<\/em> was also played on that mission.)\u00a0The song was also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/science\/space\/2006-07-12-shuttle-music_x.htm\">previously<\/a> played for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsc.nasa.gov\/Bios\/htmlbios\/fossum.html\">Michael Fossum<\/a> on Discovery in 2006,\u00a0seen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_u8B51mRDUU\">here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0It was played for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsc.nasa.gov\/Bios\/htmlbios\/gorie.html\">Dominic Gorie<\/a> on Endeavor in 2008 <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/%20Dominic%20Gorie%20in%202008%20here\">here<\/a>, who said it was timed perfectly with the sunrise, and &#8220;the glory is apparent this morning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a point of historical reference, when the Astronauts of Apollo 8 read from Genesis regarding creation (after being the first men to see the Earth rise over the moon), NASA was sued, as previously <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=128\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With regard to the band Third Day, news reports <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onenewsnow.com\/Culture\/Default.aspx?id=517436\">indicate<\/a> that they may head to Afghanistan to entertain the troops there.\u00a0 Third Day has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/pressRelease\/idUS125327+14-Jan-2008+PRN20080114\">previously<\/a> participated in a USO tour to the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Traditionally, Space Shuttle crews in orbit receive a musical &#8220;wake up call&#8221; at the end of their &#8220;sleep cycle&#8221; (&#8220;night&#8221; occurs every 90 minutes or so).\u00a0 From the NASA website: Wakeup calls are a long-standing tradition of the NASA program.
