As previously discussed<\/a>, the US military has said it destroyed the local language Bibles mailed into Afghanistan by a church in the United States.\u00a0 Dr. Carl Moeller of Open Doors USA<\/a>, which has ministries focused on delivering Bibles and support for persecuted Christians, called<\/a> the destruction<\/a> a waste that was “beyond necessity.”<\/p>\n

There’s certainly many organizations that could put them to good use…I don’t think it had to go to the degree that they took it. I think it sets a very bad picture of the U.S. military’s perspective on Christianity, and frankly that troubles me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

CNN also covered the story<\/a> (video<\/a>). In the end, the military’s decision\u00a0(for which it has provided no proof) was probably one of logistics, not malice.\u00a0 Still, Moeller mentions the frequently cited “double standard” with regard to the US attitude toward religious texts:<\/p>\n

Had this been six or seven copies of the Koran that were destroyed, there would be no end to the amount of protest you would hear.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
