According to a variety of reports<\/a>, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation has called for the dismissal of Chaplain (Major General) Douglas\u00a0Carver, the US Army’s Chief Chaplain.\u00a0 As noted earlier<\/a>, Chaplain Carver had called for a day of prayer and fasting among his Chaplaincy corps on April 8th, which coincided with the beginning of Passover celebrations in the Jewish community.<\/p>\n

Weinstein claimed he’d received a\u00a0“tsunami<\/a>” of complaints against the Day of Prayer, though his MRFF is the only organization to protest.\u00a0 Weinstein, who is Jewish, said<\/p>\n

The fact that this would fall on this same day is not just wrong or bad, but unforgivable, and Carver should be severely disciplined.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

By contrast, some responses, by those of both the Jewish and other faiths, expressed support for the Chaplain, noting that Jewish fasts are entirely appropriate on this day.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0One post appears to have been written by\u00a0Chaplain (Col) Jacob Goldstein, the US Army’s “Senior Jewish Chaplain,” which stated<\/p>\n

[Critics must be] unfamiliar with the Jewish faith as Passover begins at sundown April 8th and is not celebrated the entire day. Another issue is that Passover Eve the Jewish faith commemorates Gods deliverance…by fasting which is known as \u201cthe fast of the 1st born\u201d which was celebrated today till sundown. I commended Chaplain Carver for having chosen this day for it is providential to have occurred as Jews fast the world over…Chaplain Carver is an extremely sensitive individual towards everyones faith beliefs. He demonstrates this constantly not only in words but in deed. The Army and the United States is blessed to have such a caring and decent human being as its Chief of Chaplains.
