Michael “Mikey” Weinstein is the sole paid employee of a self-founded “charity” that claims to protect religious freedom in the US military. In fact, though, Weinstein pays himself more than a quarter million dollars<\/a> per year while doing nothing more than attacking anything remotely<\/em> approaching an expression of or an association with Christianity.<\/p>\n

One of his most recent targets was sentries at Robins AFB who dared to say “have a blessed day<\/a>” to those entering the base.<\/p>\n

Because we can’t have people wishing others well, apparently. (Weinstein laughably asserted this was an attempt by the gate guards to convert people to Christianity.)<\/p>\n

Then, Weinstein targeted a Wing Commander who praised his troops for “doing the Lord’s work<\/a>” in Afghanistan and the Middle East.\u00a0 Weinstein called the\u00a0Colonel’s use of the euphemism “an ominous threat…to the security of the entire world<\/a>.”\u00a0 Though Weinstein certainly recognized the turn of phrase, his\u00a0sensationalized it to feed his ego’s need for publicity and reassurance of his own self-importance. Unfortunately for him, he received neither: The Air Force ignored him.<\/p>\n

While there have<\/em> been examples of US troops<\/a>\u00a0motivated by their religion to be what some would call a “national security threat,” not one<\/em> has been a Christian. Yet it is only Christians<\/em> in the US military that Weinstein has attacked with an\u00a0unrivaled\u00a0bigotry.<\/p>\n

Bereft of an actual<\/em> Christian threat to the United States, Weinstein has been either forced to manufacture<\/a> a “clear and present danger” or relegated to lowly role of\u00a0grammar police.<\/p>\n

To that end, Weinstein will probably complain about the March issue of Airman Magazine<\/em><\/a>, the official<\/em> magazine of the Air Force, which used what Weinstein would call a “Christian supremacist” phrase on its cover: Heavens to Betsy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Who knows? Weinstein may even threaten to file a lawsuit over the fighter pilot vernacular. He’ll likely claim only he<\/em>, not God, can “damn.”<\/p>\n

Of course, a legal threat from Weinstein carries no more weight than any other playground bully — a bully who talks\u00a0big, but never actually delivers<\/a>.<\/p>\n
