some for religious reasons, some for reasons of simple justice, and some probably for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/Newsfront\/westerners-army-veterans-fight\/2015\/02\/15\/id\/624872\/\">their own reasons<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Saint Michael, the archangel of battle, is tattooed across the back of a U.S. army veteran who recently returned to Iraq and joined a Christian militia fighting Islamic State in what he sees as a biblical war between good and evil.<\/p>\n<p>Brett, 28, carries the same thumb-worn pocket Bible he did whilst deployed to Iraq in 2006 &#8211; a picture of the Virgin Mary tucked inside its pages and his favourite verses highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very different,&#8221; he said, asked how the experiences compared. &#8220;Here I&#8217;m fighting for a people and for a faith, and the enemy is much bigger and more brutal.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/world\/2015\/02\/20\/american-in-iraq-training-a-christian-army-to-fight-islamic-state.html\">Further<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Matthew VanDyke says he is \u201cstepping in where the international community failed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Twitter Thursday, the American said he has spent the last two months \u201chelping to raise a Christian army\u201d in Iraq to fight the Islamic State group.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The international community does very little for Christians in the Middle East, so if they\u2019re not going to do it, we\u2019ll do it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>FoxNews even led with a headline of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/2015\/02\/27\/onward-christian-soldiers-us-filmmaker-self-styled-revolutionary-trains\/\">Onward Christian Soldiers<\/a>&#8221; for\u00a0a time.<\/p>\n<p>The situation is probably <!--more-->not too unlike Americans traveling to Israel to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/americans-joining-israeli-army-through-loyalty-obligation\/\">join the IDF<\/a>, something probably far more common than many realize.<\/p>\n<p>To be clear, these militias do not claim to be\u00a0fighting a war to impose a religious faith or to demonstrate the superiority of their beliefs &#8212; unlike ISIS&#8217;s &#8220;convert or die.&#8221;\u00a0 They are a &#8220;Christian&#8221; militia only insomuch as they are alike in faith and attempting to defend\u00a0their group from targeted annihilation &#8212;
