{"id":30501,"date":"2014-12-04T01:54:23","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T04:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=30501"},"modified":"2016-11-25T00:53:52","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T03:53:52","slug":"af-band-flash-mobs-smithsonian-with-christmas-songs-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/04\/af-band-flash-mobs-smithsonian-with-christmas-songs-video\/","title":{"rendered":"AF Band Flash Mobs Smithsonian with Christmas Songs (Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding-left: 150px;\"><em>This, this is <strong>Christ the King<\/strong>,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Haste, haste to bring Him laud,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The babe, the son of Mary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Continuing a tradition begun last year, the US Air Force Band &#8220;flash mobbed&#8221; the Smithsonian and performed <em>What Child is This?<\/em> and <em>Carol of the Bells<\/em>, to the delight of the crowd:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vniBBT7nRJg\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The Air Force Times <a href=\"http:\/\/flightlines.airforcetimes.com\/2014\/12\/03\/video-usaf-band-kicks-off-holiday-season-with-flash-mob\/\"><em>Flightlines<\/em> blog<\/a> noted that the official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usafband.af.mil\/news\/story.asp?id=123433162\">Air Force Band website<\/a> said the first song was <em>Greensleeves<\/em>.\u00a0 While <em>Greensleeves<\/em> is the same tune as <em>What Child is This?<\/em>, the vocalists were clearly singing the lyrics to the latter.<\/p>\n<p>Military members can <!--more-->express Christmas cheer, even publicly and in uniform &#8212; though, as with every public expression even remotely associated with religion,\u00a0not everyone is happy when they do.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a few <a href=\"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/09\/af-band-flash-mobs-smithsonian-with-joy-to-the-world\/\">atheists criticized<\/a> the Air Force Band&#8217;s choice of a &#8220;religious&#8221; Christmas song.<\/p>\n<p>Michael &#8220;Mikey&#8221; Weinstein was particularly offended, complaining to Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh about the Band singing &#8220;Joy to the World&#8221; [unique Weinstein formatting original]:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;.Well done, Mark!&#8230;&#8230;WHAT a fabulous statement for the USAF to make here&#8230;.[] of ALL the holiday songs they could have performed, they chose THIS one?????&#8230;&#8230;..yeah, I wonder why??&#8230;&#8230;Mikey<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Somebody needs an eggnog.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Noted at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2014\/12\/03\/air-force-band-flash-mob\/19824447\/\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-share=\"true\" data-show-faces=\"true\" data-size=\"small\" data-action=\"like\" data-layout=\"standard\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><strong>ADVERTISEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><!-- blogpost --><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-ad-slot=\"2728423835\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-6450825356098669\"><\/ins><script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The babe, the son of Mary.
