{"id":30033,"date":"2014-10-09T00:30:34","date_gmt":"2014-10-09T03:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/?p=30033"},"modified":"2016-11-25T01:10:20","modified_gmt":"2016-11-25T04:10:20","slug":"nfl-rightfully-regrets-penalty-on-player-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/christianfighterpilot.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/09\/nfl-rightfully-regrets-penalty-on-player-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL Rightfully Regrets Penalty on Player Prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An NFL player who recalled shades of Tim Tebow was penalized during a football game for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/thetwo-way\/2014\/09\/30\/352733882\/in-nfl-game-a-slide-and-a-prayer-spur-debate-and-clarification\">praying in the end zone<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Referees in Monday night&#8217;s game took exception to Kansas City&#8217;s Husain Abdullah actions after he slid in the end zone and prostrated himself&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Abdullah, a devout Muslim, placed himself in the traditional position for Islamic prayer, not too much unlike Tebowing.\u00a0 Also not unlike Tebow, Abdullah did not complain about the penalty and even put a somewhat lighthearted spin on the issue:\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>After the game, Abdullah said his understanding was that the penalty was for the slide, not the prayer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stop before you drop,&#8221; he told The Associated Press.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Contrary to frequent anti-Christian machinations &#8212; ones that often end with &#8220;just imagine if a Muslim tried to do the same thing&#8230;&#8221; &#8212; Christians came to the defense of Abdullah, including pariah of secularists, FoxNews&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/2014\/09\/30\/why-im-glad-nfl-called-audible-on-muslim-prayer\/\">Todd Starnes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When he dropped to his knees in the end zone, he was not celebrating. He was practicing the Sajdah.<\/p>\n<p>As a Southern Baptist, I\u2019m not all that familiar with the Islamic faith \u2013 but I am familiar with religious liberty, freedom of religion.<\/p>\n<p>The founding documents of our great nation are flavored with Judeo-Christian values. Under our system of government people of all faiths are able to practice their religion in the public marketplace.
